Broadstairs 2009

Broadstairs 2009

On Sunday, July 12, 44 students met with their English teachers at their school in Bad Aibling at 5 o'clock am. they were on their way to the Kent School of English (KSE) in Broadstairs, situated in the south-east of England.
In the evening, we arrived in Calais and took the ferry to Dover. At 10 o'clock pm (English time), after an 18 hours bus trip, we finally arrived in Broadstairs and got to know our host families who had come to meet us and who gave us a warm welcome.
The next day, we had a grading test and lessons. After that we took part in the KSE observation quiz and in the evening there was the KSE disco where we could make new friends and enjoy the music. 0n Tuesday we started our new classes with only students who Hd reached the same grade as we had. In the afternoon we went to Dover to visit the castle and its underground hospital. We had really fine weather, so we could see France on the other side of the Channel. At 8 o'clock pm we met at the bus stop for a karaoke evening which was really funny. On Wednesday, after school, we visited Canterbury for a walk round the famous sights, some of us also went into the cathedral. Of course, everybody went shopping. In the evening we had the KSE Barn Dance where we danced to traditional country songs with a live band. On Thursday we visited Leeds Castle. In my opinion, it is really one of “the most beautiful castles in the world”. We walked through the maze, and for some of us it was really difficult to find the way out again. In the evening we met at the school to do the KSE culture and to find out how much we knew about the British culture. On Friday, our last day in Broadstairs,  we had to choose an activity, for example playing tennis or beach games, swimming, theatre or dancing. In the evening, we watched Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, of course in English, in the smallest cinema which we had ever seen. On Saturday, on our last day in England, the highlight was our trip to London with a boat trip down the river Thames. From the boat, we saw the Tower Bridge, the London Bridge, the London Eye, the Tate Modern Gallery and Westminster Palace. We arrived at Westminster Boat Station at 12 o'clock, so we heard the famous ring of Big Ben. After that we took our lunch in St James Park. then we went to see Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square and Covent Garden. In the evening we took the ferry from Dover to Calais and took the trip home over night. At 10 o'clock am (German Time) we arrived back at Bad Aibling - very tired, but it had been a fantastic trip!
